This book a lot lighter than expected since is told from the perspective of the kidnapped doctor. She is a very pragmatic character and the tone of the book reflects that. I binged this book in one day. I was nervous up front because I can be sensitive to cult things, but I thought it was handled really well and had a very nice balance of peril and stakes without going over the top with descriptions of cult activity.

One of my favorite quotes that I feel captures the tone of the book is “There was something deeply unfair about the fact that I was still having hot flashes while kidnapped.”

The narration fit the book perfectly. I really enjoyed Jennifer Pickens performance.
