An exploration of loyalty, fate, and what happens when humans are pushed to their extremes.
This book is a must read if you like: Super powers, LGBTQ+ Representation, sci-fi, detailed and complex storytelling.
My Thoughts
The universe described in these books is VAST. One of the most intriguing things about this Duology is Roth’s ability to make a universe feel expansive while focusing on individuals lives.
I read these books back to back and I really appreciated being able to do that. The stakes are so high that the author was able to take moments to create beautiful descriptions for the reader without the narrative feeling bogged down.
I really love fiction that explores moral relativity and this book definitely delivered.
I love books where people have powers. This one has such a unique take on it. I never thought I would Relate more to a curse than I do to Elle’s obedience in Elle Enchanted, but Cisi’s curse/power just took it to the next level.
There are so many details in this Duology that I could probably read it 5 times and still be finding things. One of them that is very subtle is the hint that the ships are not JUST mechanical ships. And I’ll leave it at that. It isn’t important to the plot, just fun.
I loved how the narration complimented the story and it helped me differentiate the different voices and perspectives.
This is a dark, powerful Duology full of pain, twists, amazing characters, relationships, betrayal and love. I am so glad I read it.
