What if you could give yourself superpowers? What if you could make yourself ExtraOrdinary?
This book is a must read if you like: Superheros, dark fantasy, complex characters
My Thoughts
This book has a dark superhero feel. While it has the deep world-building you would expect of a Schwab book the pace is faster than most, driving to the end.
This book took me a little to get into due to the dark tone and modern setting. But now I have read it more than once because the rich world building and in depth exploration of the human condition.
At face value this is not my vibe. However, the themes in this book are complex and intriguing. The characters are gripping and I need to know what happens and I don’t know what I want to happen.
This book is an incredibly unique take on superheroes. This exploration of the consequences of powers and what it takes to get them is a beautiful setting for the telling of the story of the Anti-hero.

The relationships between the characters is really where this book captures me. People who are struggling and come together to find that sense of peace and family.
I really loved the narrators voice. I felt he captured the story well.
While this book broke many of my “reading rules” and is not my normal genre, I have read it more than once because it is so engaging, raw, and honest.

Spoilers
This is a spoiler so skip to the next paragraph if you don’t want spoilers: She kills the dog. Twice. This is usually a rule that has me DNFing faster than I can close the book. However, because death and new life is a major theme of this book and the dog isn’t the ONLY main character that goes through this cycle I have found it redeemable. But you have been warned.
